With the outbreak of corona virus on a global scale and speculation spreading almost as quickly as the virus itself, we thought it would be useful to separate the facts from the fiction and outline the precautions you should be taking to protect yourself and your loved ones.
COVID-19 – The Facts
Statistics: At the time of writing this article (24th of March), 90,436 people have been tested in the UK for the virus, of which 82,359 were confirmed negative and 8,077 were confirmed positive. There have been 422 known deaths as a result of COVID-19 in the UK to date.
Risk: For most of the UK population, the immediate risk of coming seriously ill from the virus is expected to be relatively low. Those most at risk are considered by the UK government to be anyone over 70, those with underlying health conditions and pregnant women.
The NHS advises symptoms of corona virus include a high temperature and persistent coughing. If you display these symptoms you should self-isolate for 7-14 days. You do not need to be tested for the virus and you should not visit a GP, pharmacy or hospital.
There is currently no treatment for COVID-19 patients. Anti-biotics do not work as they don’t work against viruses. Despite some online speculation, there is currently no strong evidence to suggest that ibuprofen can make the virus worse. However, the NHS recommends taking paracetamol to help symptoms. Once someone has completed self-isolation or quarantine for at least 14 days they no longer pose a risk of infection to others.
What can you do to Stay Protected?
Personal Hygiene: consistently washing your hands with hot water and soap and uses hand sanitiser with at least 60% alcohol for 20-40 seconds each time is widely considered to be the most effective way to maintain your personal hygiene and reduce the risk of infection.
In response to the low availability of hand sanitiser within the UK and the rising inflated prices, Nourished are distributing a free bottle of hand sanitiser with every single box of Nourishments until the foreseeable future, in support of our valued customers during this difficult time. We are also donating free hand sanitiser to vulnerable individuals and care homes in our local community who need it most. If you know a person or organisation who are in need of hand sanitiser, please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Work from home, avoid public events and socializing wherever possible in order to stop the spread of the virus. If you do physically interact with others, always try to keep a 2 metre distance and avoid any physical contact. You should also keep clear of using public transport as much as possible.

Panic buying in supermarkets is having a dramatic impact on those most vulnerable as they are unable to buy essential items such as nutritious food and pain relief. Purchase what you need for your family and anyone you are caring for but try to leave enough on the shelves for others. Online shopping is an effective method for reducing exposure to infection and allowing retailers to manage their stock controls.
At Nourished we source 98% of our ingredients from the UK and make each stack fresh on demand, so our production and product availability remain unaffected by the supply chain issues currently being experienced elsewhere.
