What is Soy Isoflavones?
Soy Isoflavones are a plant-based compound and a type of phytoestrogen. They act like a weaker form of one of the main female sex hormones (oestrogen) in the body. Soy Isoflavones bind to the same receptors as oestrogen, and by doing so can help to reduce one of the most common and unpleasant symptoms that are associated with the menopause; hot flashes.
What are the Benefits of Soy Isoflavones
Going through the menopause is a natural process and unavoidable for many women, however, dealing with the symptoms doesn't have to be such an endless struggle. Hot flashes are one of the most common symptoms that affect women going through the menopause, but this can be aided with science backed active ingredients. A study into 177 women (at an average age of 55) who were experiencing 5 or more hot flashes per day, found that they were able to decrease the severity and frequency of this symptom within as little as 2 weeks after supplementing Soy Isoflavones [i].
Soybeans are actually one of the richest sources of phytoestrogens, but they also offer a variety of other benefits, including supporting bone health and reducing the risk of osteoporosis (which is another menopausal symptom) [ii].
A study into the effectiveness of Soy Isoflavones showed that when supplementing this ingredient, it can reduce cholesterol levels, reduce cardiovascular disease, may protect against muscular fatigue and may even be useful for cancer prevention on the liver, mammary glands and endometrium [iii] [iv].
Scientific studies have also highlighted that this powerful ingredient can support weight management by reducing the BMI in women [v], can have a positive impact on systolic blood pressure of menopausal women [vi] and significantly reduce serum triglycerides, which can help reduce the risk of heart diseases, stroke and heart attacks [ii].
